Inside Out Bookmarks

Howdy!

Inside Out Title

I am just a tiny bit in love with my project today. My daughter has a project for class; a Kindergarten Market Day where the kids make and sell crafts/food items. This is a part of learning about economics. I was really pushing to make gingerbread cookies but I was overruled by my darling daughter. I really did have to let her decide what to make, since it was her project. She picked bookmarks. Well, we went back and forth about what kind of bookmarks and somehow we finally landed on Inside Out bookmarks. I wasn’t really sure what we would end up making since parents are allowed to help but not do all the work.

Then it hit me; there are a ton of great coloring page sites online. So, one thing led to another and we had bookmarks. I used the coloring page images and pasted them onto bookmark shapes that I created in my Silhouette Software and then printed and cut them out. I really wanted tassels for the bookmarks but I didn’t really want to make 20+ tassels and I felt like that might be too much helping. I looked online and to find bookmarks that came in all the Inside Out colors I would have to order 100. We trekked down to our local craft store and found some great beads on clearance and I bought a few skeins of DMC Pearl Cotton in five colors and so we created the beaded tassels, much easier and it was something that she could actually help me with.

Our last step was the coloring. My daughter used her markers to create her 20 bookmarks and we are all set to go for her class. I just couldn’t let her have all of the fun so I created a set that she used for color reference while she colored hers.  I will list the Copics I used under each bookmark.

You could totally make these from any movie or any coloring page you could find online. . I remember using beads like those in this project to make Friendship Pins when I was in elementary school. You would string the beads on a safety pin and then give it to a friend who would then pin it on their tennis shoes. We have a ton left so I might just “have to” make some.

Good Fortune Card

Hi-ya!

I hope you are having a nice weekend, or whatever day it is you find yourself here.

My card for today uses a fun set from Hero Arts that has been hiding out in my craft room. I totally forgot I even had it. I made this one layer card with the Good Fortune. The coloring was done using Copic Markers.

This was a great project to practice coloring. I think that I am about due to purchase some refills as my blues seemed a little weak. I will be entering this card in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge : Anything Goes for this week.

I stamped the girl first using Memento black ink and then I created a mask using a piece of copy paper. To hold my mask in place I throw a tiny bit of adhesive on the back and then I stick the mask to my shirt for a moment. The fibers from my shirt make the adhesive weak and it always comes right off after that, but it holds well enough to mask. Next, I added the parasol and masked that as well.

I then stamped my lanterns over my two masks. I added the flowers and dragonflies. Then I colored my scene. This took a bit of time but it was really relaxing. I know that adult coloring is all the rage these days, I think that is something we crafters already knew. Creating is a great stress reliever. I will list all of the Copic Markers I used below in the Materials section. I used a ruler to draw a horizon line and then just colored a grey ground and blue sky.

I really liked how the lanterns turned out.  I colored them green first and then came back over with a yellow marker and I think that it looks like a light glowing from the inside. I added a touch of Wink of Stella Glitter Pen on the flowers and then adhered my panel to a piece of black card stock and then a card base.

Keep You Fin Up – Something’s Fishy

Happy Monday!

Okay so maybe that is a little too happy for a Monday. Perhaps “salutations” would be better. My days tend to run into one another so sometimes a Monday doesn’t feel like a Monday.

Today I have another card from the Something’s Fishy Stamp Set by The Alley Way Stamps. I went with simple and easy,  not a lot of layers of embellishments. I’ll be posting this card in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge. This week’s  (technically last week’s)Wednesday Challenge is Use a Stamp. There are a lot of entries this week but I’ll still pop my little whale over there.

I am sure that you can tell that I really like this set. I just cannot get enough of all the sea life.

I first stamped my whale with Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black. I am always amazed at how quickly that ink dries and you can almost immediately start coloring over it with Copics.

When I color with Copics I typically start with my lightest shade and then add a mid-tone and a dark-tone of a similar color palette.

I added the sentiment with the Memento ink. For the background paper I inked a piece of white card stock with Salty Ocean Distress Ink.  This is a relatively new ink color for me but I really liked it. It is just such a great middle shade of blue. I also added a tiny touch of Stickles to my whale’s bubbles. See just for you all I am reining in my glitter issue. I am not kidding there is glitter all over my house, if I leave without glitter on my face it is a victory.

Little Fellas Sea Card

Good Day!

I am so loving these new stamps I ordered from The Alley Way Stamps. Initially it was the narwhal that drew me to these but I am finding that all of the animals are so stinkin’ cute. They are great stamp to color. Today’s card has a lot of coloring and baby animals. I will be entering it into this week’s Wednesday Challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Blog. The challenge is Make it Colorful. Challenge accepted! If you are unfamiliar with The Alley Way Stamps I suggest you stop by their website as they have tons of cute stamps.

For today’s card I started with a piece of white card stock. I stamped the baby sea animals using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black. I find that the Memento Ink is the best ink when using Copic Markers. I can stamp and then go immediately to coloring and the ink does not smear.

It took a while to color the animals but I found it really relaxing. I will list all of the colors I used below. Once I had the animals colored I colored the background. I then mounted my background onto a piece of blue card stock. I wanted to have a very small blue layer so I trimmed the blue card stock after it was attached to my background. I find that this works better for me when making a very small layer.

Next I stamped the orca, again using the Memento Ink. I added a little gray shading to the white parts of the whale for depth. I stamped and cut out the sentiment and mounted it on a piece of blue card stock.

The ribbon came from my random ribbon stash. I added adhesive gems and adhered the ribbon and sentiment to my card. I then added my orca using foam tape. Once he was on the card I coated him in a good coat of Glossy Accents.

Once the orca was dry I mounted the whole card to a layer of orange card stock and then to the card base.  I am really liking these stamp set and they make the perfect baby card.

Baby Giraffe Die Cut Card

Hello!

I made this card for a baby shower last weekend. The mom-to-be is expecting a little baby boy and had several little items with giraffes so I made a giraffe card.

I really like giraffes. They are such neat animals. At the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs you can feed them. It is really neat and my daughter always enjoys it. The last time we were there I was bending down to pick-up some dropped lettuce and one of the giraffes licked my forehead. It was an odd experience to say the least. I am sure that it was not what she was trying to do but we both perhaps had a bit of a surprise.

I started by cutting out the tri-layer giraffe shape. I purchased the shape from the Silhouette Design Store (here). I colored the base layer with Y21, Y23, & Y26 Copic markers. The middle layer was colored with E13, E15, E17, E57 and E55 Copics. The top layer was colored with E17, E18 and E19 Copic markers.

I colored the positive of the heart with B02, B04, and B06. I added details on the giraffe with a Sharpie pen in black. The sentiment was also cut with my Silhouette Cameo using a font called African. I colored the “Congratulations” with E18.

I cut the grass with this shape. Once I had all my shapes colored I adhered my giraffe to this darling pattern paper and added the sentiment and grass. Then I broke out the Crystal Stickles and added the glitter on the “Congratulations” and heart.

I punched out the daisies using the McGill Multi-Daisy punch and then added the light teal pearls from Doodlebug.

I really liked this giraffe shape because it looks super complicated but it is only three layers.
