Felt Seahorse Card

Hiya!

I hope that you are all having a wonderful Wednesday. We are in our last week of school here and I am so not really ready for it! This week’s challenge over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog is Felt That. I have never worked with felt on a card so this was a great challenge. I had some felt lying around and I just purchase the Tim Holtz Sand and Sea die and was trying to think of a way to use it. All this came together for this fun sea inspired card.

The stenciled strip of paper is actually a scrap from an earlier card. I didn’t pick-up the trimmings right away and it was lying on top of the sandy colored paper, also from a previous project. When I saw it lying there I knew a pop of orange would really look nice with those two. Then came the felt challenge and everything really came together.

I started by trimming the teal paper down to fit my card and then I added a scrap of orange cardstock. This was then adhered to the card base.

Next, I die cut the seahorse and starfish. My felt was white and it cut out so easily and cleanly. Once I had my pieces I added color with a variety of color sprays. For the seahorse, I used Bahama Blue and Patina Glimmer Mist and also Peacock Feather Distress Spray. For the starfish, I used Sunlight and Apricot Jelly Glimmer Mists. I sprayed the felt and then set them aside to dry.

Next, I create the sentiment. For this I cut an oval using my Spellbinders Nested Ovals and stamped the sentiment from Stampin’ Up using Peacock Feathers. The little heart below is from an All Night Media set and was stamped using Spiced Marmalade. I added a light application of Spiced Marmalade on the edge of my oval. I then added adhesive foam circles and layered this over my stenciled strip.

Next, I glued my felt pieces to my card and added the adhesive gems. I then added a touch of glitter by applying Orange Slice Stickles to my little starfish.

I really liked working with the felt and I was really surprised with how well I was able to cut it out. Thank you for stopping by!

Woodland Birthday Card

Good Morning!

Today’s card is for another birthday party! My daughter actually has two parties this weekend. The second has a Minecraft theme so I will have to do some research before I whip up that one. I know very little about Minecraft. The first party has a woodland/outdoorsy theme and I tried to mimic the invitation with some retired QuicKutz dies and flower punches.

Woodland Birthday-1

For this card I started by creating an oval mask using Spellbinders dies. I cut the largest oval out of a scrap of white cardstock and placed it over my card. Sometimes I use copy paper to create masks but the cardstock worked well for this card. I used my Ink Blending Tools to ink in the void using Distress Inks in Squeezed Lemonade, Picked Raspberry and Ripe Persimmon.  Next, I cut out my deer shape using my Epic  6.

Woodland Birthday-4

I ran my die through my machine three times; once for the brown layer, once for the eye and white spots and then a final time for the pupil and nose. I lightly inked the edge of my deer with Walnut Stain Distress Ink, to give him a little pop. I then adhered my deer on top of my masked oval. I added the white accents with a white gel pen and the black accents with a multi-liner. I also added a little sparkle on the white spots with my White Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.

Woodland Birthday-6

Next I cut out the bunny and the fox in the same way. Each different color requires an additional cut. Next, I added the flowers.

Woodland Birthday-2

I punched the flowers out using my McGill Paper Blossom Punch called the Mini Petals. I cut out a variety of flowers in my three colors. I lightly inked the edges in the same colors I used in the oval and then shaped the flowers using the McGill Tools. I then adhered these to my card and added a little Stickles in the center of each. At this point I decided that it was a little too plain so I added the flourish stamps. These stamps are from BoBunny and I inked them with Picked Raspberry and Ripe Persimmon. I stamped these while the Sitckles were still wet, which was not the smartest idea but I only smudged one flower and I just “couldn’t” wait.

Woodland Birthday-7

At this point I added my bunny and fox and then I still felt that it was too plain so I threw some adhesive gems on it. I actually managed to wait for everything to dry before I added the Rose Red mat and adhere everything to the card base. The last step was to add a sentiment.

Woodland Birthday-5

Here is the inside of the card. The sentiment is from My Sentiment’s Exactly! and was stamped in the Picked Raspberry. That was it! I hope that the Birthday Girl likes her card.

Fresh Brewed Coffee Card

Hiya!

So I know that you are here for craftiness and not football but I just have to say we had an awesome night last night. The Broncos were amazing and we had a great time and it was so much fun to watch our team win. This morning I needed a little extra coffee so today’s card is well timed.

I had been waiting to get the new Fresh Brewed die from Tim Holtz and finally broke down and picked one up. It is a cute! I started this card by creating the coffee cup. I cut the shapes out using my Epic 6 and watercolor paper. I inked the cup with Ground Espresso  and the band with Lucky Clover. I then ran the band through my Epic 6 and embossed it with an Embossing Folder. I then gave it a light spritz with Perfect Pearls mist. The circle was inked with Antique Linen and I stamped the heart with Ground Espresso.Cold Coffee-4

I covered the heart with glue and applied Rock Candy Glitter. The lid was lightly inked with Antique Linen and I then added the Rock Candy Glitter.  I inked the straw with Lucky Lover. I assembled my coffee and started work on the background.Cold Coffee-5

To begin, I stamped the coffee beans in Ground Espresso on a piece of white cardstock and then inked the paper with Antique Linen and applied Ground Espresso on the edges. Next, I created the background band by inking a piece of white cardstock with Lucky Clover and then one with Ground Espresso. I adhered everything together and added Gathered Twigs Distress Stickles to the brown band.Cold Coffee-6

I punched a tiny hole in the coffee cup and added the tag. The cup and tag were mounted to the background using pop dots. The sentiment was stamped with Ground Espresso and I also inked the edge with the ink as well. The eyelet is from Making Memories and the Baker’s Twine is from Target. You just never know what you are going to find in the Dollar Bins at Target.

Pink Zebra Birthday Card

Today’s card is for a very special little girl. I really enjoyed breaking out the cute dies and Stickles. I went with a circle shaped card just for something a little different. As always, I really appreciate you taking time to visit my little blog.

Circle Card with Glitter Zebra

This card has only one stamped element and that is the sentiment inside. I started this card by die cutting the zebra out of white and pink card stock. I glued my pink elements to the white base and added Cotton Candy Stickles. I cut the eyes and nose out of black card stock. For the nose I added Liquid Pearls in Onxy Pearl.

I added the white eye highlights with a Gelly Roll pen. I cut the card base using my Silhouette Cameo. I made two 5″ circles and used the Weld Feature to make them one piece. I cut two circle at 4.7″ for the background and inner card. Next I cut the blue sky and grass shapes.

Shark Week

Today is the last day of Shark Week and to commemorate this year’s week long tribute to sharks I have made this card with one of my favorite quotes from 30 Rock.

Shark Week-1

It just makes me laugh! I die cut all of the elements out of white card stock using my Silhouette Cameo. I colored the words “week” and “Shark Week” with Copic markers and then added Stickles to the other words.

Shark Week-2

The shark fin was also colored with Copics and then embossed with Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE). With just one coat of the UTEE the fin has a mottled, glossy look. On a side note, I have petted a shark before, three to be exact. They feel like sandpaper and the different species feel like different grits of sandpaper.

Shark Week-3

While this card is fairly simple I actually had to make it twice because there was what I would call a “glitter incident.” It was an absolute disaster and while I usually try to salvage project gone astray, there was no saving it.

When adhering die cut words it can be difficult to get everything lined up. To help with this I use the negative of the die cut to adhere the letters. I will remove the letters/words that I am going to use in my card from the paper after cutting. I then line up the negative space where I want a word. I then use a Zig glue pen to put a small amount of glue where the letter was and then place the letter back into the hole. You do have to be careful not glue the scrap paper to the card but it helps me get my words straighter.
